How We Build A Horse Float Video

May 9, 2016AdministratorInformation

Come in and see how we build a Horse float. All Otto Tuza’s Vip Horse Floats are built and manufactured at our premises located at 32 Lear Jet Drive, Caboolture Qld.

Customers are welcomed through our gates where they can view first hand our finished quality horse floats. They can then come through to our office where they will be greeted by our friendly staff were you will be assist with your horse float inquiry  .

Horse Float Axles

When we start to build a horse float our first process is to manufacture the axles. Our axles are very unique to Otto Tuza’s VIP Horse Floats. We use our very own fully independent rubber torsion bar suspension manufactured right here at our factory. Each suspension is tailor made to suit each individual model of our horse float range right through to our goosenecks. Our suspension will ensure you a far superior and more responsive ride when the float is loaded or unloaded. The benefits you will gain from our fully independent rubber torsion suspension includes:

  • Stability – this will give your horses a more comfortable ride
  • Significantly smoother ride when towing
  • No noise– the floats are very quiet so makes travelling for you and your horses less stressful
  • Minimal Maintenance – no moving or wearing parts like rocker roller suspensions, so breakdowns are eliminated

Independent suspension is now used worldwide on Horse Floats, Trailers, Caravans and Vehicles as this is a far more superior suspension in today’s market. Otto Tuza has been using independent suspension for over 40 years. Our suspension is backed up with our 5-year written warranty for your peace of mind.

Horse Float Chassis, Roof and Frame

al-ko steelOur next step when we build a horse float is to manufacture the Chassis Roof and Frame for the float. Otto Tuza’s VIP Horse Floats use a complete All Gal chassis roof and frame. This gives you the assurance of being a far more superior and durable horse float then other floats. Our chassis and roof is all section rolled in one piece using only Australian steel. Rolling this in one piece means we eliminate any stress on the steel by not having to cut and then join by welding. A lot of other manufactures will paint their chassis so you can’t see the material they are using. EG: black steel that will rust out over time leaving you with a massive expense in your pocket to fix. We leave our chassis exposed and unpainted so the customer can see this is an All GAL product that we are manufacturing. The chassis on a horse float is one of the most important parts of your horse float along with your flooring.

We now install and assemble the brakes, hubs and bearings, coupling, safety approved ADR chains and jockey wheel to the float. We only use ALKO brakes when we build a horse float. We use parallel stubs (parallel are a higher rated stub than slim line). We fit an Alko 3.500kg gal coupling and Alko swivel Jockey wheel. All our bearings are all NSK (NO Chinese bearings are used when we build a horse float)

Press and Folded Side Wall Panels

The next manufacturing step when we build a horse float is to press and fold our side  wall panels and fronts. They are then  FULLY WELDED to the float’s chassis and roof. We do not use pop rivets in the manufacturing process of our floats. Pop rivets are only used in some parts of the floats internal fit out. All our side walls, fronts, entry doors, panels and mudguards are manufactured from zinc anneal sheeting giving extra resistance to the harsh elements of the weather. This also ensures our horse floats finish and its strength is superior to others. Once welding fabrication is completed in our welding bay section, the float moves along to the painting bay area.

Painting a Horse Float

protec logoThe next step when we build a horse float is to prepare it for painting. A successful paint job is directly related to the proper preparation before painting. Our horse floats are sanded and cleaned off, all welds are pre-treated with epoxy so it provides a superior adhesion to the metal and gives more corrosion resistance before painting. The float is then cleaned and wash down with prepsol to remove all dirt, dust, finger prints and oils so the float is clean for sealing and painting. The horse float is then fully sealed internally and externally ensuring all joins are sealed. Our horse float is now ready for undercoat and painting. We use Protect Automotive Paint. Our floats are undercoated in Protec Pro Etch Grey then we apply three top coats to the horse float to ensure full coverage and full gloss is our end result. We use Protec 625 Polythan Automotive 2pac paint. Once painting is completed the float remains in our spray booth to dry overnight. The float is now ready to be prepared for our custom paint on stripe. The float is then masked up and the stripe is sprayed onto the float. Once the painting stage has all been completed the float moves into our fit out bay area.

Float fit out

federal tyresThe last step to build a horse float is to fit out the float. We install all the finishing stages to complete the float. First the float is wired, then the timber flooring is installed. We use F27 hardwood form ply with a marine coating that is screwed to the chassis. We only use zinc plated structural nuts, bolts and washers or aluminium pop rivets in the fit out of our horse floats. We install a one-piece heavy duty rubber matting with no cuts or joins. (Excluding our budget / economy floats). The timber kickboards are installed – heights vary on straight loads and angle loads. Once all the timber work and rubber has been installed the whole floats floor and internal area of the horse float is fully sealed. This is to ensure no water gets through to the frame and chassis. Our next step in the fit out bay is to install and seal the full piece fiberglass roof. Then we add the internal padding and divider system. Next all the external fixtures are fitted such as LED lights, stone guard and mudguard protection. Finally, all NEW TYRES AND RIMS are fitted to the floats. Depending on your customised float purchase there are many other items that would be installed onto the float but are not all are included in our video.

2 Horse Angle EnclosedThe float has now been completed with a full detail to finish it off it is now ready for our customer to collect. When our customer comes to collect their new horse float we firstly connect the customer’s tow vehicle to their float. This ensures us that the customer is connected safely and has been shown how to correctly connect their float to their vehicle safely. Our trained staff will then show our customer how all components on their new horse float works and how to maintain and service their new float. Our customers drive away very happy. See our testimonials from our very happy customers.
